Gatewood did not write in a linear fashion, did not move in chronological order from chapter to chapter. Instead, he made each chapter self-contained much like magazine articles. Because of this, his chapters overlap. For example, his chapter dealing with his civil problems begins in 1884 and concludes at the time of Crook’s meeting with Geronimo at Cañon de los Embudos in March 1886. No effort has been made to break up his organizational structure and move his contents to other chapters. However, some overlapped information has been edited out.
