I give both mass communication and mass media a wide latitude, for the reason that both are products of the society in which they exist, and that society must by its own definition be given breadth to enable a comprehensive and often complex study of the process of society. Mass communication is the process; mass communications can be the message on a billboard or advertising flyer; it can be the sensory impulses from a multimedia light-show with psychedelic lights and acid music; or it can be articles in newspapers or magazines.
