What do you want out of TotSpot?

adamkatz on May 16, 2008

As we get closer to our launch (soon), we want to be doubly sure that your experience using TotSpot matches your desires and goals when creating a TotSpot page for your child (or children). To make sure we understand those goals properly, we thought the best idea was to ask:

When building a TotSpot page, what is your most important priority, and why?

  • A. Providing the latest updates and information about my child
  • B. Creating a “showcase” that expresses my child’s unique personality/life story
  • C. Providing a place to interact and connect with others (wall posts, comments, graffiti, tickles)
  • D. Other

Obviously, our goal is to ensure that these pages are multifaceted, but nonetheless, it is really important for us to know what is the primary motivation that inspires you to build a TotSpot page.

As always, thanks for the help.

P.S. We’re giving away a free, brand-spanking-new, really really sweet, TotSpot T-Shirt for our favorite response…

Hi TotSpot!

My most important priority is providing the latest updates and information about my children. I love having a way to blog about them so that my sister can read the updates and hear about how the girls are doing. Sometimes I’m too busy to call her and give her an hour long run down about how they are doing. I like being able to post about their accomplishments and adding pictures or videos to the journal entry!

Looking forward to many more features soon,
Stephanie

It’s a tough call, but I’d have to say A. All of our family (grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.) are in a different part of the country, so we’ve had to rely heavily on the internet to keep everyone up to date on the latest with our son. Totspot is so wonderful in how it integrates “seamlessly” with other sites, such as Flickr and Vimeo. Of course, having the ability to control who has access to the site is another key feature. At this point, as soon as I’m able to import the existing posts from my current blog, I’ll be making the FULL switch over to Totspot!

What I am most looking for from Totspot are tied into answers a&c. My husband is in the military..active duty, so we move around alot. We are not near our own family so they miss out on everything that our son is doing, and how unique he is at 4 years old. In this day and age you can’t just put stuff out there on the web. I personally want people to be able to view my son and look at everything, but i only want the people that I invite. That is why I LOVE Totspot. It is like myspace for my little one and it is safe. I love all the features that Totspot has.

I would say A. We have family spread out all over the country and I am constantly sending emails to update everyone with pictures and information. I usually do it once am a month since I don’t want to overload everyone. With Totspot, I can just update as things happen and then let my family check it out when they are interested. Plus, it is great to be able to give my little 10 month old a page that expresses who she is and is dedicated to her. I enjoy adding the pictures, videos, and milestones! Thanks Totspot…I will continue to tell all my friends!

Definitely A for me too - I was thrilled to finally find a way to collect all of our son’s online photos, videos, etc. in one place. Now I can point family and friends to his TotSpot page and they can see all the latest updates at the same URL.

The one thing that would make this function even better is if it were possible to have some way to really streamline the login process. In my experience, people always forget their usernames or passwords to sites they don’t use on an everyday basis, as will be the case with, say, grandparents. It would be great if pages could have some kind of default password - say, the baby’s last name, unless changed by the user - or else a “private url” that cannot be accessed by search engines, only directly by those who already know it (as SmugMug does).

I hope that is helpful!

It all boils down to security for me, and I love that Totspot can allow me to share my child and his updates via the web with ONLY those I choose, and not every random person who doesn’t always have a child’s best interest at heart. The cute graphics are also very, very cool.

Did anyone ever win a shirt?
